Context

The transition from the Andean forests to the páramo lets you feel how the landscape changes with altitude. Parque Nacional Natural Los Nevados brings together high Andean forests, wetlands, volcanoes, glaciers, superpáramos and páramos, an ecosystem that covers about 84% of its area. In these mountains numerous water sources are born and peaks rise such as Ruiz, Santa Isabel and Tolima, as well as the paramillos of Quindío and Santa Rosa. Walking through this territory lets you observe how the vegetation changes with altitude and understand why these landscapes, besides being imposing, are essential for the region's water regulation.
