Context

Colombia records more than 4,200 native orchid species and about 77% are found in the Andean region, especially in Andean forests and páramos. Climate, altitude and other factors create exceptional conditions for these plants to grow on trees, rocks and soils, often in tiny forms that are only discovered by looking carefully. Touring gardens and reserves lets you admire their colors, but also learn about their relationships with fungi and pollinators and understand why so many species depend on the conservation of the forest.
