Jaguarundi Travel is a Colombian nature tourism operator founded in 2010 by René Montero, an ecologist from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and a guide since 2005. We design and operate wildlife and plant watching trips throughout the country: birds, orchids, mammals, amphibians and reptiles, butterflies and intangible cultural heritage. Our director is a guest speaker at the Global BirdFair in the United Kingdom (2025 and 2026), at the Asian BirdFairs in Malaysia, the Philippines and South Korea, and at the Global Wildlife Fair in New Delhi. How we relate to the territory. For us, tourism is an economic incentive to conserve. We work directly with hundreds of local providers: communities, local guides, reserves and family-run lodgings. Several of these communities moved from cattle ranching and logging to economies based on conservation, and some have formally protected their lands as reserves. We operate in partnership with dozens of protected areas and reserves, among them the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Chingaza, Tatamá, Las Orquídeas, Río Blanco, Otún Quimbaya, Barbas Bremen and Chicaque. We design each itinerary respecting the carrying capacity of each place.
